Choosing the Right Table Size for Your Wedding: A Guide to Table Hire
When planning your wedding and event, one key detail to consider is the size and style of the tables you need to hire for your reception. Choosing the right table size is important to creating a comfortable atmosphere for your guests, getting this wrong can make your wedding party feel cramped and crowded.

In todays blog we will guide you through the do’s and don’ts when it comes to hiring tables and choosing the correct size. We have a wide range of tables available to hire at My Event Hire but we will be focusing on the two most popular styles, round tables and trestle tables, and explain how to choose the right size for your wedding.

Round Table Hire

Over 5,000 years ago in ancient Mesopotamia the wheel was invented. Thanks to this invention the world was graced with round wooden banqueting tables.

Rounds tables are a classic choice for a whole variety of different events, especially wedding. Using round tables for your wedding reception will create an intimate atmosphere, allowing all your guests to easily see and talk to each other.

When choosing the size of your round tables you will need to consider the numbers of guests that will be attending your wedding reception, along with the space you have available in the room.

What sizes are round tables?
Rounds tables can be supplied in a variety of sizes, with the most common sizes being a 5ft diameter (60 inches) and 6ft diameter (72 inches).

How many people does a round table sit?
A 5ft round table can comfortably seat 8 to 10 guests and a 6ft round table can comfortably seat 10 to 12 guests.

How to calculate how many tables I will need at my wedding?
For example if you have 100 guests to seat at your wedding reception, we would recommend using 5ft round tables or 6ft round tables.
If using 5ft round tables (these seat 8 to 10 per table) you would need between 10 and 12 tables, depending on how many you would like per table.
If using 6ft round tables (these seat 10 to 12 per table) you would need between 9 and 10 tables, depending on how many you would like per table.

Table Linen for Round Tables
When it comes to choosing the right table linen size for your round tables for you wedding we have two main options. A 5ft round table would fit a 120” inch round table cloth all the way to the floor or a 108” table cloth, which would sit 6” off the floor.

If you were hiring a 6ft round table, a 132” inch round table cloth would go all the way to the floor and a 120” inch round cloth would sit 6” off the floor. A 90” x 90” would be the correct size to create a slip cloth when hiring a 6ft round table.

Trestle Table Hire

Another popular table hire options for weddings and events are our trestle tables. There are a versatile table which can be used for both seating, serving and cake and gift tables.

What sizes are trestle tables?
Trestle tables can be supplied in rustic wooden and plain wooden and also plastic, all being 6ft long (72 inches) and 2ft 6” wide (24 inches)

How many people does a round table sit?
A 6ft trestle table can comfortably seat 6 guests if using both sides of the table or 3 guests if you are only using one side of the trestle table.

How to calculate how many tables I will need at my wedding?
For example if you have 100 guests to seat at your wedding reception, using trestle tables we would recommend 17 tables if you have guests sat on both sides of the trestle. Depending on your layout you may be only able to use one side of each trestle table. If so we would recommend hiring 34 trestle tables.

Table Linen for Trestle Tables
When it comes to table linen size for a 6 ft trestle table, we’d recommend a 70” x 108” and 70” x 144 “. Both sizes would fit single tables very nicely, however if you are using two trestle next each other to create a square we would then recommend a 90” x 90” table cloth.
Rule of thumb when hiring tables for your wedding
Allow 24 inches of space per chair around a round table or along a trestle table. Especially if you are planning a sit-down meal to allow guests room to eat comfortably.

Make sure your guests don’t feel cramped, the standard recommendation for the amount of room needed behind a chair when seated at a round table is 30 inches.

Choosing the right table size for your wedding is an important detail to consider. Whether you're choosing round tables for a formal reception or trestle tables for a casual wedding, it's important to consider the number of guests you'll be seating and the space you have available. Remember to take into account the correct table linen sizes to ensure a perfect fit and an elegant look.
